Rangers' Corey Seager gets 100% real on returning from injury vs. Guardians appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
Corey Seager is essentially guaranteed to miss a minimum of 25 games each season (and that might be generous), but he usually produces big numbers when healthy. This year, though, the two-time World Series MVP and three-time Silver Slugger has been both injured and ineffective. He is seeking to change both of those trends, and he got started in Friday's 3-2 win over the Cleveland Guardians .
Seager, who had a dismal .179 batting average and .638 OPS before landing on the shelf with lower back inflammation, returned to the lineup after missing three weeks of action. He quickly recaptured his clutch ways. The five-time All-Star shortstop hit a two-run, 399-foot home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, propelling the Rangers to their sixth victory in seven games.
Texas (31-32) remains two games behind the Seattle Mariners in the American League West, and it now has its most accomplished hitter back on the roster, and possibly back in rhythm. Seager is grateful for the opportunity to rejoin a squad that was already playing quite well before he was activated off the injured list.
"It was just nice to get out there with the guys again," he said, per the DLLS Rangers X account. "Honestly, in a weird way, it's a easier way for me to come back when the team's going. You don't have to feel like you're doing anything, you just kind of hop on the train and keep going.'
A stress-free Corey Seager could be incredibly dangerous to the rest of the division. He has been the face of the franchise since signing a 10-year, $325 million contract in December of 2021, but with Josh Jung and Joc Pederson each posting an .820-plus OPS, perhaps the pressure will be off No. 5.
If Seager and the Rangers can grab a W against the Guardians (36-29) and clinch the series on Saturday night, they will be back to .500 for the first time in more than two months.
