The Texas Rangers earned a 6-1 victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday. The Rangers have played fairly well and are tied with the Athletics for first place in the American League West with a 13-12 record. On Thursday, Evan Carter made a significant impact with an inside-the-park home run.

After the game, Carter provided a breakdown of his inside-the-park home run, via Rangers Sports Network.

“There was a lot of emotions, or not emotions, but like, off the bat I thought for a second, then I was like, ‘Oh crap, he’s gonna catch it.’ Tried to slow down, kind of hit the double, and I’m like cruising for a triple. And then (Corey) Ragsdale (Rangers third base coach) kept waving me. And I’m like, ‘Oh crap, so we can keep going.’

“I don’t really know. I pulled up and stopped like three times I feel like. So it was good, it was fun.”

Inside-the-park home runs are one of the most exciting plays in baseball. They are also quite rare. Carter was expecting it to be a double or a triple, but he ended up rounding the bases for the homer.

Overall, the Rangers have had an up and down season despite leading the AL West. They would love to find more consistency sooner rather than later.

Carter is hitting just .216/.337/.392 across 25 games played. He now has three home runs. Perhaps his exciting moment on Thursday will help him start finding more success at the plate.

The Rangers’ next game is scheduled for 8:05 PM EST in Texas against the Athletics.
