The Texas Rangers received an encouraging injury update Wednesday as Wyatt Langford continued working his way back at Globe Life Field. The latest development came before the club prepared for the third game of its four-game series underway vs. the Houston Astros .
A Grade 1 right forearm flexor strain put Langford on the 10-day injured list April 22. A setback during a rehab appearance earlier this May slowed his recovery and delayed what initially looked like a shorter path back to the Rangers' lineup.
DLLS Sports' Jeff Wilson shared the latest update on X, formerly Twitter, while Langford continued to progress through baseball activity.
"Wyatt Langford (forearm) said that he is taking batting practice on the field today and is still on track to face a live arm Friday. #Rangers"
Wilson later posted another update from Globe Life Field as the former No. 4 pick in the 2023 MLB Draft continued his work .
The development was an important step for Langford, whose next scheduled test against live pitching could help determine how quickly he moves toward a rehab assignment. For the Rangers, the progress offers a positive sign as they wait for one of their young lineup pieces to return from an absence that has lasted more than a month.
The club has continued to monitor the 24-year-old carefully because of the earlier setback, and the club is unlikely to rush the outfielder before he clears each stage of the process. Still, taking on-field batting practice and remaining scheduled to face live pitching gives the Rangers a clearer view of his timeline.
Langford's athleticism and offensive upside remain valuable for a Texas lineup seeking consistency. The Rangers sit at 25–29 and third in the AL West, and if he progresses well, the former Florida standout could move closer to an early return in June.
