The Baltimore Ravens are under fire right now after quickly moving on from their aborted trade with the Las Vegas Raiders for edge rusher Maxx Crosby , instead agreeing to sign former Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson .
Former NFL running back LeSean McCoy thinks the NFL needs to hold the Ravens accountable.
"That's bad business. Something needs to happened to the Ravens because we don't want to start to making this the new norm. Where you know what, we agreed to a new deal but we realized maybe we gave too much. Right, and now I want to back out of it, but I can't back out of it, so failed physical," McCoy said on his podcast. "We can't do that. You are playing with real people. This isn't Madden. This isn't fantasy football. You can't renig on deals. This is terrible. If the same way how you want to be aggressive and you want to penalize players for things we do wrong, you need to penalize these GMs and owners on the same thing. That's some bullcrap, bro."
Baltimore reportedly had all the information regarding Crosby's knee recovery timeline before the team pulled out of the deal following Crosby's failed physical, per Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
Russini said many in the league believe "GM Eric DeCosta and the Ravens ultimately just got cold feet."
NFL insider Jason La Canfora provided some insight on how two general managers reacted to the Ravens backing out of the trade.
"Just got off the phone with two GMs. Neither one buying the Ravens failed physical narrative – not by a long shot. Good luck finding agents and teams to trust you in negotiations now. It's not sitting well with the Raiders either. Coulda got further medicals on Crosby way sooner," La Canfora wrote on X .
This is not the first time that the Ravens have pulled out of a deal . Baltimore signed running back Ryan Grant to big deal in 2018, but once wide receiver Michael Crabtree became available. Grant was tabbed with a failed physical and the Ravens got out of the deal and signed Crabtree.
There was also an incident last year.
"Remember, it was the Ravens Eric DeCosta who sold the Eagles on Jaire Alexander being OK to acquire. Alexander retired shortly after being dealt. I don't t buy for a second what they're selling on Crosby, especially now that they landed Hendrickson just hours later," Eagles beat writer Ed Kracz wrote on X .
