Ravens vs Bills Preview
This is one of my five favorite matchups in the NFL right now, so we have to do it up big.
Last year's crazy Week 1 matchup, a 41-40 comeback victory for the Bills , essentially set the entire Ravens ' narrative in motion for the last two seasons. I wrote about my frustrations with Baltimore in this week's futures check-in — blown double-digit leads are deeply ingrained in this team's DNA.
And then there's the Lamar Jackson issue.
How do you cap this game when we don't even know what Jackson is capable of after missing the last three games with an ankle injury? Jackson is officially starting, but how effective will he be? That uncertainty is worth plus or minus a full point to the spread value!
So, what do we know for sure?
If you rank the units in this game, the Bills defense is definitively the worst. They have been terrible, no matter how you slice it.
But the Ravens defense is definitively next. They were awful against the Bengals in Week 7, with Marlon Humphrey , the linebackers, and the pass rush all looking lost. That instantly makes you lean toward the over, but 54+ is a steep total.
How about their recent rivalry history?
Buffalo has won two of three meetings over the past two seasons. Those games featured totals of 45, 52, and 81, averaging 59.3 points with absolute fireworks.
James Cook has done very little in these matchups, but Derrick Henry has utterly dominated, averaging over 150 rushing yards with spike games of 169 and 199 yards. Normally, that would be my go-to angle, but Henry is looking old and slow right now.
I also don't trust the Ravens' offensive line against Deone Walker and Greg Rousseau , though Baltimore has been vulnerable to power rushing attacks this year, so maybe Cook gets going.
Josh Allen 's passing numbers are all over the map in this matchup, but he runs nearly 10 times a game against Baltimore and had five rushing touchdowns in those three games.
Overall, we tend to see a lot of scoring and not much defense when the Ravens and Bills meet up. The last two meetings were instant classics decided by one and two points.
Ravens vs Bills Moneyline Parlay Picks
If you want a side here, why not bet the narrative?
The Ravens build big early leads and then blow them. That is what has happened in recent matchups, too.
Lamar Jackson is 61% against the spread (ATS) in the first half for his career, which is also when he will be his healthiest on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Josh Allen is an absurd 85-43-4 ATS (66%) in the second half for his career.
Bet the narrative.
Pick: Ravens 1st Half Moneyline / Bills 2nd Half Moneyline (+553 at Hard Rock)
Ravens vs Bills Player Props
If I had to play a traditional side or total, I'd take the over.
Since 2024, totals at 53+ with a rising line are 16-8 to the over, and Bills overs are 5-1 this year.
But I'll skip the total to invest in some fun props.
Josh Allen Props
-
Josh Allen 10+ Rushing Attempts (+296 at DraftKings)
-
Josh Allen 2+ Anytime TDs (+350 at FanDuel)
How are we betting the quarterbacks? On the ground.
The Bills consistently save Josh Allen's legs for the biggest games on the schedule. In the playoffs, he averages nine carries per game with 10+ carries in four straight. He also has 10+ carries in two of his last three games against Baltimore.
For his career, Allen hits 10+ carries in 24% of his games, compared to the 26% implied probability of the odds — but that doesn't factor in the magnitude of this specific matchup.
Allen has scored 2+ rushing touchdowns in 3-of-6 games this year, in 2-of-3 games against Baltimore, and in three of his last six playoff games.
In a game that should feature plenty of points, Allen's going to be responsible for some of them.
Lamar Jackson Props
-
Lamar Jackson Over 25.5 Rushing Yards (-114 at FanDuel)
-
Jackson Escalator #1: Jackson 40+ Rushing Yards (+250 at FanDuel)
-
Jackson Escalator #2: Jackson 8+ Rushing Attempts (+800 at DraftKings)
I honestly went looking to fade Lamar Jackson's rushing props due to injury concerns, but his lines are SO low!
Jackson's Weeks 1 and 2 rushing lines were around 40 yards. His line for this game is 25.5! That is insane.
Jackson has rushed for over 25.5 yards in 103 of his 119 career starts (86.6%).
Even since the start of last season while playing through a barrage of injuries, Jackson's over this number in 12-of-17 games when he plays 60% of the snaps.
If Lamar Jackson is on the field, we have to trust him to be himself.
And if that baseline Jackson number is that far off, then all of his alternate lines are way off, too.
Jackson has cleared 39+ rushing yards in 77% of his career starts, including four straight against Buffalo.
Lamar has logged 8+ rushing attempts in 69% of his career starts.
It would be a surprise to see Jackson get too aggressive as a runner in his first game back, but adrenaline can talk over, and we can always hit one of these rush attempts overs with kneel downs too.
We may never get lines this low on Lamar Jackson again.
There is obviously serious risk of reinjury or ineffectiveness, but the upside is huge.
Josh Cuevas Props
-
Josh Cuevas Longest Reception Over 8.5 Yards (-115 at bet365)
-
Cuevas Escalator #1: Cuevas Longest Reception 15+ Yards (+245 at DraftKings)
-
Cuevas Escalator #2: Cuevas Longest Reception 20+ Yards (+443 at DraftKings)
I'm skipping the running backs in this game with the uncertainty both ways. Instead, I want Ravens' pass catchers against an awful Bills pass defense, which ranks in the bottom five in the league across the board.
First up: rookie tight end Josh Cuevas.
If you follow in the Action App , we added Cuevas late last week and hit his longest catch prop plus an alt on literally the first play of the game.
Cuevas has played around 25% of the snaps the last five games, recording a catch of 14+ yards in four of them. Seven of his nine catches this season have gone for 9+ yards, so we likely hit this over with a single catch.
Cuevas is Baltimore's TE field stretcher now since Mark Andrews only has three catches over 10 yards on 37 targets this year.
The Bills allowed no TE receptions to the Chargers ' backups but 39 catches to TEs in their other five games (7.8 per game). They have already allowed 16 tight end catches of double-digit yardage, including 11 catches of 15+ yards and five catches of 20+ yards.
Let's run our escalator right back and hope for a long catch or two.
Zay Flowers Props
-
Zay Flowers Over 80.5 Receiving Yards (Fanatics)
-
Flowers Escalator #1: Flowers 100+ Receiving Yards (+175 at FanDuel)
-
Flowers Escalator #2: Flowers 150+ Receiving Yards & Anytime TD (+1350 at bet365)
-
Flowers Escalator #3: Flowers 200+ Receiving Yards (+3600 at DraftKings)
Zay Flowers … this is your moment.
The Bills allow the most fantasy points in the league to wide receivers, including the most wide receiver touchdowns. We've already seen monster games against Buffalo from studs like Puka Nacua and Amon-Ra St. Brown but also from players like Davante Adams and Tre Tucker.
I wrote about Flowers in this week's AFC big picture reset, which is why we bet him for both Offensive Player of the Year and Receiving Yards Leader this week .
Flowers has played 67 total snaps with Lamar Jackson this year — basically three halves of football.
In those snaps, Flowers has 16 catches for 353 yards and two touchdowns! That is an absolutely insane 9.1 yards per route run, putting him on a 235 YPG pace when Jackson at QB! By comparison Flowers is on a 57 YPG pace without Jackson.
Flowers already has games of 118, 137, and 150 yards — and a couple of those were accumulated in just one half!
I project Flowers for around 7-8 catches and 95-135 yards, with massive upside. If we are going big on this game, let's go BIG.
It will hard for Flowers to get to 150 yards without a long touchdown, so we will pair those together.
And if DraftKings is crazy enough to offer 200+ yards at 36-1, we are taking it. Flowers already has two 125+ yard halves this year, and against Buffalo, Baltimore can't afford to take its foot off the gas so if Flowers is cooking he might just have to stay in the kitchen all game.
