The Milwaukee Brewers disoriented the Tampa Bay Rays by driving in eight runs with two outs in the fifth inning during Game 3 of the World Series, but on Tuesday, the American League champions returned the favor with an offensive barrage of their own. Down to its final three outs of the 2026 season, Kevin Cash's ballclub survived and finally delivered in a late-game situation. Chandler Simpson, one of the reasons why Tampa will play on Wednesday, stamped an exclamation point on a 4-3 walk-off win .

"We're never going to shy away, we're going to keep fighting till the end," the speedy and contact-savvy left fielder told FOX's Tom Verducci after Game 4. "The last inning, the last out, the last player, the last pitch. We're going to keep fighting, that's what we did tonight."
Simpson's comments perfectly describe the Rays, but more specifically, they encapsulate his own big-league journey. The 2022 second-round draft pick was demoted to Triple-A last season because he was deemed a defensive liability. He is now a Gold Glove finalist. Despite finishing fourth in MLB with a .306 batting average, he carried a 94 OPS+ (league average is 100) heading into the playoffs. Simpson now has two multi-hit showings in the World Series.
The 25-year-old native of Atlanta, Georgia is calling into question the credibility of the advanced metrics by making winning plays in October. He made another impressive catch, denying Garrett Mitchell a potential go-ahead RBI in the ninth, and also went 3-for-5 with an RBI double. Simpson was caught stealing once again, but he bounced back when it mattered most.

Following a Jonny DeLuca game-tying single, the left-handed hitter stepped up to the dish with runners on first and second and no outs. Simpson seemed poised to lay down a bunt, but instead, he put the winning run 90 feet away from home plate via a base hit to center. Ben Williamson added one more knock to clinch the victory .

Chandler Simpson and the Rays have absorbed some blows in this Fall Classic, but they are still standing. And as long as they are on their feet, the Brewers should expect resistance. Tampa Bay will try to send this series back to Milwaukee on Wednesday night.
