Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero emerged as a superstar-caliber player last season and has continued that level of play in 2026. At just 22 years old, he's already recorded 76 career home runs, with 24 of them coming this year before the All-Star Break. Caminero is playing at such a high level that one MLB insider thinks he could be fast-tracked to the Hall of Fame.
During a guest appearance on "Just Baseball," ESPN's Buster Olney went as far as to claim that the four-year veteran may go down as an all-time hitter in league history. Olney even revealed that Los Angeles Angels legend Albert Pujols believes that Caminero will eventually replace New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge as the league's most dominant hitter.
"I had Albert Pujols on my podcast earlier this year. He said that when Aaron Judge moves on, Junior Caminero is going to be the next Aaron Judge in this sport," said Olney… "The fact that he's now taking his walks, wow, that is scary. You say Hall of Fame career, I'm going to go one up on you. I'm gonna say we might be looking at an all-time great power hitter. He may hit his 100th homer in the second half of this year, which is crazy!"
The Dominican Republic native has been on an absolute tear this season. Through 319 at-bats, Caminero has recorded 92 hits, 24 home runs, and 54 RBIs, giving him a .288 batting average and .378 OBP. He is just 24 dingers away from reaching 100 career home runs.
He'll have a chance to go yard once again on Friday, July 3. The Rays are scheduled to take on the Houston Astros in the first matchup of a three-game series.
