The Tampa Bay Rays are gearing up for a postseason run by adding an experienced outfielder to their organization.

According to his transactions tracker on MLB.com, left-handed hitter Jake Cave has signed a minor league deal with the AL East club.
Cave last played in the Majors with the Colorado Rockies in 2024. Before that, he spent parts of five seasons with the Minnesota Twins from 2018-22, and suited up for 65 games with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2023.
Since leaving the Majors, Cave has enjoyed stints in the Korea Baseball Organization with the Doosan Bears and the Mexican League with the El Aguila de Veracruz.
"Cave will give the Rays a bit more depth in a part of the roster that is lacking. If someone gets hurt or the Rays just want to shake things up, Cave could be called up to join the big league team," Darragh McDonald of MLB Trade Rumors wrote.

"[Chandler] Simpson and [Victor] Mesa are optionable, if the Rays decide to go that route," McDonald added.
Across seven MLB seasons, Cave has a career .236/.292/.400 hitter with 45 home runs and a .692 OPS.

He can play any of the three outfield positions and has accumulated four outs above average on the grass.
There's no harm in the Rays giving the 33-year-old a chance to see if he can potentially make an impact as they seek their first postseason appearance since 2023.
