Shohei Ohtani may not pitch as often as Dave Roberts might like for the Los Angeles Dodgers , but that doesn’t mean he still can’t deal when he is given the ball on the mound. The San Francisco Giants struggled to generate any offense against the two-way superstar on Wednesday night, recording five hits and no runs over six innings. In 24 innings this season over four starts, Ohtani has allowed just one earned run.
Ohtani has found another gear since the regular season began, with his schedule of pitching every seven days. Roberts hasn’t stretched him beyond 100 pitches yet, in hopes that he will be able to avoid any further damage to his throwing arm. Ohtani has full reign to mow down opposing hitters for his scheduled six innings and 90 pitches, and Giants manager Tony Vitello hopes San Francisco won’t see him too many more times this season, according to 95.7 The Game via X, formerly Twitter.
The problem for the Dodgers on Wednesday night was that their offense couldn’t pick up their starting pitcher. Los Angeles failed to get a single run across the plate, while Patrick Bailey hit a three-run home run off Jack Dreyer in the seventh inning to give the Giants the win.
It was the second consecutive win for San Francisco over Los Angeles, and they look to pull off the series sweep on Thursday afternoon. Despite some early hiccups, the Giants have won five of their past six games and are now just five games back of the Dodgers and San Diego Padres .
