Recently released Jaguars tight end quickly signs with new team

Former Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Johnny Mundt has already found a new landing spot.

One day after it was reported that the Jaguars were releasing him, Mundt signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles , according to the NFL Network .

By releasing Mundt, the Jaguars saved $2.73 million in 2026 salary cap space.

The Jaguars viewed Mundt as expendable. As the 2025 season progressed, Mundt's role was reduced with the emergence of Quintin Morris .

Mundt and Morris also filled similar roles as blocking-heavy tight ends. Hunter Long offers more pass-catching upside compared to Mundt, adding a different element to the room.

Within the tight end room, the Jaguars still have Brenton Strange , Morris, Long, and Patrick Herbert. Addressing tight end in the NFL draft is very much a possibility, especially with Morris and Long free agents in 2027.

Before joining the Jaguars, Mundt spent his first five NFL seasons with the LA Rams and the three after that with the Minnesota Vikings. For his career, he's appeared in 124 games and made 24 starts. Mundt has caught 74 passes since entering the NFL in 2017 for 658 yards.

With Jacksonville in 2025, Mundt caught nine passes for 111 yards.
