The Boston Red Sox 's chances at turning the season around were looking bleak after the Baltimore Orioles dominated them on Friday night. Boston fans were more worried about potentially getting swept by an American League East rival for a second straight series than winning a game on Saturday afternoon. However, the Red Sox's offense exploded for 17 runs, chasing Trevor Rogers after 1+ inning and getting into a depleted Orioles bullpen.
"All season they been quiet and chose TODAY to wake up and go nuclear. this Red Sox offense said save the best for one legendary ninth inning and give the people something to talk about " X user @thezenomhayab wrote .
"Exactly what this team needed. Go win tomorrow and you're back in it" @soxisking added .
"That's like a Patriots offense… not the Super Bowl, but other football games they scored 17, I'm pretty sure." @mrquimba furthered .
The offensive outburst was a positive sign, but the play of Garrett Crochet was also optimistic after two poor outings . Crochet went six innings, allowing no runs and striking out seven. It was the type of win that could get the Red Sox firing on all cylinders.
The next step for the Red Sox will be winning the series on Sunday afternoon. Getting the season back on the right track will do a lot to calm the concerns of Boston fans who were starting to feel hopeless with the team's direction. Boston currently sits 7.5 games back of the New York Yankees for first in the AL East.
