The Boston Red Sox will enter the MLB playoffs without two contributors, as Mickey Gasper and Tyron Guerrero have landed on the injured list.
Gasper was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a right biceps strain, retroactive to Sept. 26. He suffered the injury while swinging during Friday's win over the Chicago Cubs .
The 30-year-old provided valuable versatility for Boston this season, appearing at catcher, first base and designated hitter. Gasper hit .251 with 10 home runs, 24 RBI and an .823 OPS across 67 games.
Guerrero, meanwhile, was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain, retroactive to Sept. 24. The right-hander had already missed most of September because of shoulder inflammation before returning to Boston's active roster on Sept. 20.
Guerrero emerged as an important member of Boston's bullpen this season, posting a 3.10 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 19 holds over 40 appearances.
Both players are now unavailable for the start of Boston's Wild Card Series against the New York Yankees . The Red Sox will need to adjust their roster as they prepare for the postseason.
