The Boston Red Sox made things interesting in the 9th inning on Tuesday night at Fenway Park against the Atlanta Braves . Atlanta turned to closer Raisel Iglesias — who had yet to surrender a run in 2026 — with a 7-4 lead in the bottom of the 9th. Boston scored two runs but the Braves ultimately held on for the 7-6 win. While the Red Sox's loss was far from ideal , outfielder Jarren Duran is confident in the ball club .
"It's baseball… It would be so easy for us to just give up and roll over and be like, 'Alright, the game is over (when trailing in the 9th inning), we're losing, whatever,'" Duran said, via Tyler Milliken. "But one of these times we're gonna put together what we do in the 9th the whole game, and we're going to go on a run and it's going to be sick.
"But it's tough, you know? We like to fight until the end. I love that out of my teammates."
The Red Sox have endured a difficult season. Duran has struggled at the plate , although he did go 2-5 with a home run on Tuesday. The 29-year-old outfielder is now hitting .198/.269/.365 across 48 games played during the '26 campaign. He's also recorded seven home runs, nine doubles and 10 stolen bases.
Duran and the Red Sox almost upset the best team in baseball on Tuesday. They will look to bounce back and earn a victory in the second contest of their three-game series against the Braves on Wednesday night at 6:45 PM EST.
