The Boston Red Sox made a big move this past offseason to trade for Willson Contreras to be their new first baseman despite having Triston Casas still on their roster.
But that's looking like the right move. Not just because Contreras has been solid, but because Casas's injury recovery isn't going well.
And according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com , things are getting even worse for Casas. According to Alex Cora, the latest swinging session "didn't go well," and Casas suffered another setback.
Triston Casas suffers another setback amid injury recovery
"Triston Casas tried swinging in Fort Myers and it 'didn't go well,' according to Alex Cora," Cotillo reports. "Casas is going to have imaging on his rib area as a result."
While this update doesn't reveal the exact nature of the setback for Casas, it's hard to believe that this update will lead to anything other than another setback.
He's struggling to swing the bat, something he needs to do perfectly fine to start working on a rehab appearance in the minor leagues, let alone he wants to get back in the lineup.
Casas initially landed on the injured list last season with a torn patellar tendon, but now, the biggest issue seems to be his ribs.

There had been some hope recently about Casas beginning his trek towards a return, but this update on the 26-year-old slugger is not what the Red Sox wanted to hear.
Getting Casas, an .800 OPS slugger with 45 career homers in 251 games, back into the lineup, or at least on the bench, would be nice for the Red Sox.
But such a future is going to have to wait. This update from Cotillo is some exceptionally bad news, as Casas seems to have suffered another setback as he tries to return from his early May injury last season.
