The Boston Red Sox are promoting left-handed pitcher Raymond Burgos, the team announced Wednesday. Right-handed pitcher Jedixson Paez was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.
The Red Sox can certainly use all of the pitching depth they can get at the moment, especially with Garrett Crochet injured . Burgos provides the team with another left-handed option.
The 27-year-old made his MLB debut in 2024 with the San Francisco Giants . He only appeared in one big league game that season, though. He would not pitch again in MLB until this season with the Red Sox. Burgos has made four appearances with the ball club, pitching to a 5.84 ERA.

In 17 total Triple-A outings (15 starts), Burgos has pitched to a 5.14 ERA. His struggles will not provide much confidence from fans, but having another left-hander in the bullpen won't hurt matters for the Red Sox.
Overall, Boston is set to enter its game on Wednesday afternoon against the Seattle Mariners with a 75-64 record. The Red Sox earned a 9-8 victory to begin the series on Monday but were defeated 9-6 on Tuesday. Boston is hoping to clinch a series victory on Wednesday afternoon.
The Red Sox are in third place in the American League East standings and 8.5 games out of first place. However, they hold the second AL Wild Card position at the moment. Barring a sudden collapse, the Red Sox should be able to reach the postseason.
For now, the ball club is focused on its ball game against the Mariners in Seattle on Wednesday afternoon.
