Tolle went seven innings, allowing two runs, but zero earned on one hit, while striking out eight. It was a stellar outing, and Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy was proud of how the left-hander competed on Monday against a solid Tigers lineup.

“You guys have gotten to know his personality,” Tracy said after the game on Monday. “And he doesn't change much when he's pitching. He is pretty happy-go-lucky. In big moments, he sees red, and he goes after it. So we're proud of him. Awesome outing.”

Tolle, meanwhile, was just thankful Tracy and the coaching staff trusted him to go deep into the game to allow him to get his first career MLB win.

“I was thankful that they kept letting me go,” Tolle said. “They told the fans to go underneath the structure and I was like, ‘Are we about to call this?’ I was happy to keep going out there.”

After the game, Tracy gave Tolle the lineup card as a keepsake for his first career MLB win, while the Red Sox players showered him in beer postgame.

Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran , meanwhile, said Tolle had a legendary speech postgame, which he wishes fans could have heard.

“Yeah, too bad you guys didn't get to hear his speech,” Duran said. “It was 1/1. That guy's always got something to say, and I love it. I can't wait to see more come his way.”

With the win on Monday, Boston improved to 14-21. The Red Sox will play the second game of a three-game series against the Tigers on Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. ET.
