The Boston Red Sox are making another pitching adjustment after Jedixson Paez struggled in his first major league start against the Seattle Mariners .
Boston optioned the right-hander to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday and recalled left-hander Raymond Burgos, giving the bullpen another arm ahead of the series finale. The Red Sox officially announced the move on X.
Paez's outing Tuesday was particularly rough. The 22-year-old surrendered eight runs on 10 hits over 3.2 innings as Seattle rolled to a 9-6 victory.
The appearance was Paez's first with Boston after previously making three appearances for the Chicago White Sox . Across four major league games this season, he has allowed 14 runs over 6.2 innings with three strikeouts.
Burgos, meanwhile, returns to Boston after being optioned to Worcester following the club's Aug. 30 doubleheader against the New York Yankees . He has posted a 5.84 ERA over 12.1 innings in four major league appearances this season.
The left-hander could provide valuable length for a bullpen that has been heavily used recently. Burgos also brings starting experience from his time at Worcester, where he has made 15 starts this season.
