The Boston Red Sox already have a loaded outfield at the big league level, and they are moving on from a talented outfielder in the minor leagues.
According to Baseball Now's Andrew Parker on Monday, the Red Sox released outfielder Corey Rosier. Rosier was in Triple-A last season and went hitless in three at-bats this spring. He had very limited spring training action, but he enjoyed a bounce-back season in the minor leagues last year.
The Red Sox acquired Rosier in 2022 when they traded Jay Groome to the San Diego Padres . In 23 games with High-A Greenville after the trade, he hit just .163. However, the following season, he slashed .285/.351/.431 with 38 extra-base hits. He got to Triple-A for the first time in his career.
However, the following season was not so great. He was in between Double-A and Triple-A, but hit just .195. It was a very forgettable season, but he bounced back last year. He had a .741 OPS last year and had 26 extra-base hits. He looked more like the player he was in 2023 and hit well in Triple-A.
Releasing him is not that big of a deal since the Red Sox are so deep in the outfield. They have five players who could play every day in the big leagues, and they also have depth in Nate Eaton and Kristian Campbell already.
