After winning a Gold Glove in 2025, Rafaela showed that his ceiling extends beyond his work in the field. He earned his first All-Star selection, improved his production at the plate and delivered several memorable moments during Boston's push toward the postseason.
The 26-year-old center fielder also gave the Red Sox another dependable piece to build around. His combination of power, speed and range makes him an important part of Boston's future, especially as the club looks to remain competitive in the American League East.
Here's a look back at Rafaela's 2026 season.
Red Sox Year in Review 2026: Ceddanne Rafaela
Rafaela entered the season with an established defensive reputation, but there were still questions about how much more he could offer offensively. He hit .249 with 16 home runs and a .709 OPS in 2025 , showing some power while continuing to work through the inconsistencies that had limited his production at the plate.

His 2026 campaign offered encouraging signs of progress. Rafaela finished the regular season batting .283 with 16 home runs, 70 RBIs and a .761 OPS, setting career highs in several offensive categories. He also stole 17 bases, giving Boston another source of production on the basepaths.
That improvement helped earn Rafaela his first trip to the All-Star Game in July. He was one of Boston's more consistent performers through the first half of the season and continued to show why his offensive development could make him even more impactful.
There were some interruptions along the way. Rafaela dealt with a right quadriceps strain before returning in September, only to leave a game later that month with right hamstring tightness. Those setbacks limited his availability during the final stretch of the season.

Ceddanne Rafaela's Most Memorable Moment
Rafaela delivered one of his biggest moments of the season on July 27, when he hit the first grand slam of his major league career against the Athletics.
Boston had struggled to generate offense through the first five innings in Sacramento, trailing 1-0 without a hit. The Red Sox finally created an opportunity in the sixth, when Connor Wong doubled and Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu drew two-out walks.
Rafaela stepped to the plate against reliever José Suarez and lifted a slider toward left field. Athletics outfielder Colby Thomas retreated toward the wall and got a glove on the ball, but he could not keep it in the park.

The grand slam gave Boston a 4-1 lead, accounting for all four of its runs in what became a 4-2 victory. The win also extended the Red Sox's road winning streak to 10 games.
The moment was particularly fitting for a player who had developed a reputation for delivering in high-pressure situations. Rafaela had been productive with the bases loaded throughout his career, and his first grand slam added another highlight to an increasingly impressive résumé.
