Red Sox rumors: Insider makes 'off-the-board' prediction for Alex Cora replacement appeared first on ClutchPoints . Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
The Boston Red Sox will likely have a long list of manager candidates to choose from in the wake of the Alex Cora firing. The interim manager role went to Chad Tracy, but it seems like Craig Breslow 's staff isn't completely sold on him staying long-term. With the Red Sox flailing this season, it'll likely be a situation they sort out in the offseason, unless the right person drops at their feet.
The big names like David Ross and Rocco Baldelli will be on everyone's minds, given their ties to the Red Sox and their pedigrees as managers. George Lombard, the Tigers' bench coach, will also be a candidate for the role, given that his name is in talks every time there is a managerial opening. However, Boston could opt for a bit of a different approach , according to The Athletic's Chad Jennings.
"Really, it comes down to Breslow, assuming this Red Sox season doesn't cost him his job as well," Jennings mused. "This feels like a situation in which a hard-to-predict, off-the-board choice could be incoming."
Just because they are one of the league's premier teams doesn't mean they only hunt established managers. Cora's first managerial job was in Boston; Terry Francona had a rough first stint as the Philadelphia Phillies manager before his success with the Red Sox; and John Farrell had a similar situation, where he didn't do too well with the Toronto Blue Jays before joining the Red Sox. Boston has historically been willing to take a chance on someone.
