The Boston Red Sox reinstated Anthony Seigler from the 10-day injured list on Friday, but have sent him to Triple-A.
Seigler was acquired along with Caleb Durbin and Andruw Monasterio in a six-player deal. He made his MLB debut with the Milwaukee Brewers last season, but he did not play in any Grapefruit League games.
The Red Sox placed him on the 10-day injured list on March 25, retroactive to March 22, due to left knee patellar tendinopathy. He was sent on a rehab assignment on Thursday and played in Triple-A Worcester's game in Columbus. He went 0-for-3 with a run, a walk and a stolen base.
The Red Sox decided to bring him off the injured list on Friday, but felt he needed to stay in Triple-A. There is no room for him on the big league roster at this point, but he is a versatile player who could serve as solid depth in the minor leagues. He had a .892 OPS in Triple-A last season with the Brewers organization.
He has experience playing first base, second base, third base, catcher and both corner outfield spots. He had 23 stolen bases in Triple-A last season as well.
Seigler was a somewhat forgotten piece of the Durbin deal. However, he could end up playing a role if the Red Sox deal with injuries in the infield.
