Red Sox Trading for $330M Star Would Frustrate Yankees Fans originally appeared on NESN . Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here .
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: if the Boston Red Sox end up making a blockbuster trade this offseason, the questions about who it should be should be somewhat obvious.
The Red Sox are in a position where they have to feel like they need more talent on both sides of the baseball, and the most obvious way to do that is by making a trade for a superstar-caliber talent.
There's reason to also go back on that idea because of how expensive it is to trade for a superstar-caliber talent, though there's risk in any trade that any team makes.
Regarding the player I believe would be perfect for the Red Sox to pursue, first baseman and outfielder Bryce Harper is at the top of that list.
Harper has already indicated in the past that he'd be willing to move back to the outfield full-time if he had to with the Philadelphia Phillies, so it should give Boston some hope that he would be willing to do so again if it needs him to.
There are a lot of obstacles that would have to be crossed for Harper to end up in Boston, but there's no debate that the fit is extremely clear.
"It's unclear whether the Phillies would entertain trading Harper. Even if they would, Harper would then have to waive his full no-trade clause. If Harper is available, he'd be a perfect fit for a Boston club that has lacked star power in recent years. The two-time MVP and nine-time All-Star's track record speaks for itself, even as he enters his age-34 season. He's still one of the league's most feared sluggers," Justin Leger wrote .
Even without factoring in that Harper is one of the best players in Major League Baseball, bringing him in would bring a completely different dynamic to this entire team.
He has a certain attitude that would be loved in Boston, and it doesn't hurt that he's coming off a year in which he hit 29 home runs and posted an impressive .865 OPS, tied for 12th in all of baseball.
