It's been a long, hot under-the-collar summer for Detroit Red Wings prospect Eddie Genborg .
"It's been tough and really boring," Genborg told Swedish website Expressen .
An undisclosed injury that Genborg suffered last spring in his AHL Calder Cup playoff debut with the Grand Rapids Griffins is still keeping him out of action. As training camp nears, Genborg is left stewing in uncertainty.
Genborg's Swedish club Timra is already into preseason competition, but he's not involved. Instead, Genborg idles on the sideline, watching, waiting, and wondering.

The original plan was for him to play again this season in the SHL. Evidently, that's not as definite at the moment.
"It's a bit unclear, so I can't say too much," Genborg, 19, tells Swedish website Sundsvalls Tidning.
Red Wings Will Likely Return Genborg To Sweden
Although he's signed an entry-level contract with the Red Wings, Genborg still has one year remaining on a two-year pact with Timra, his SHL club. Traditionally, the Red Wings honor European contracts. They did so last year with defenseman Anton Johansson . Even though the Wings signed Johansson, he went back to Sweden for his last year of contractual obligation to Leksand.

Despite that history, Genborg readily admits that he has no idea what his immediate hockey future will hold.
"It's been a bit unclear all summer," Genborg said. "I may not have been 100% and had a few hiccups, but it still looks like I'll start here. I think so anyway."
Genborg will get ample opportunity for ice time should he remain in Timra. The club lost its top two scorers from last season, Jonathan Dahlen and Emil Pettersson. That leaves Genborg, the player Detroit chose 44th overall in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, as Timra's top returning scorer.
He'd like to be the guy for his Swedish club.

"That's my goal, what I'm aiming for, and I'll do everything to get that chance," Genborg said. "I still like that the expectations are higher and hope that I can prove that I'll continue to be on the ice as much as I was able to be last year."
