Red Wings vs. Lightning best bet: J.J. Moser Under 1.5 Shots on Goal (-135)
Our NHL PRO Prop Projections highlight a significant edge in this Red Wings vs. Lightning matchup, flagging value on J.J. Moser to finish under his shots-on-goal prop.
The model tabs Moser for just 1.12 shots on goal against a 1.5 line, translating to a substantial 11.9% edge. In player prop betting, double-digit edges on low-volume defensemen represent some of the most consistent long-term spots on the board.
Through 13 games this season, the 26-year-old blueliner has registered just 15 total shots on net (1.15 per game) and has not recorded a goal or assist. He has stayed under 1.5 shots on goal in 8 of his 13 outings (61.5%), including four games where he failed to register a single puck on frame.
While Moser logged a pair of shots last time out against Nashville , that came during a game where Tampa Bay went to extra time and he played over 22 minutes—a deployment spike well above his 18:16 season average.
Beyond the box score, Moser's on-ice role under head coach Jon Cooper directly limits his shooting upside. Slotting onto the blue line behind high-usage, puck-moving teammates like Victor Hedman, Moser functions primarily as a stay-at-home, defensive presence tasked with eating tough matchups and blocking shots in the defensive zone.
Without dedicated power-play time to inflate his shot floor, his offensive contributions rely almost entirely on low-danger point flutters at 5-on-5 that are frequently deflected or blocked before reaching the netminder.
The game script against Detroit also favors a subdued offensive showing from Tampa Bay's secondary defenders. The Red Wings arrive on the heels of a 5-3 victory over the Panthers and are playing on the second night of a back-to-back.
Todd McLellan's squad is likely to lean into a compact, defense-first road posture to protect their legs. Tampa Bay's forward corps—bolstered by top-tier shooting volume from their premier lines—will absorb the lion's share of offensive zone opportunities, leaving little reason to expect Moser to push beyond his projected 1.12 shot baseline.
Back the Action PRO edge and fade Moser on his SOG line this evening.
