The Cincinnati Reds have a true young star in Elly De La Cruz . This season, De La Cruz is once again helping to lift the club's offense. At this time, it appears the team is not engaged in extension talks with the infielder.
"Agent Scott Boras had dinner with his client Elly De La Cruz last night at Jeff Ruby's restaurant in Cincinnati which made me reach out to Reds (President) Nick Krall to see if they reengaged in (extension) talks…he replied "Not at this time,"' MLB reporter Jim Bowden posted to X, formerly Twitter.
De La Cruz has 10 home runs and is hitting at a .288 batting average on the campaign. The Reds are 22-19 on the season, and currently tied for last in the National League Central. Every team in the NL Central is above .500 on the season.
In a win over the Houston Astros on Sunday, De La Cruz posted three hits and scored two runs. Cincinnati shut out Houston, 5-0.
In the past, the infielder has struggled with strikeouts. De La Cruz has improved his numbers in that area so far this season.
"De La Cruz has been working on it, and the results are showing. Since the beginning of the 2025 campaign, his strikeout rate is 26.3%. And so far in 2026, he's posted an .875 OPS with 10 homers and nine steals. He also entered the week tied with the Dodgers ' Andy Pages for second among position players in the National League with 2.1 fWAR. Only Atlanta slugger Matt Olson was ahead of him, at 2.4," MLB.com's Manny Randhawa reported on Tuesday.
The Reds need that production . Cincinnati has struggled considerably over the last few weeks. After leading the NL Central very early in the season, a brutal losing streak dropped the team all the way into last place in the division.
The Reds start a series on Tuesday against the Washington Nationals .
