Report: Book'em Danno Could Miss Breeders' Cup Sprint
Reigning champion male sprinter Book'em Danno could miss a planned start in the Breeders' Cup Sprint at Keeneland, trainer Derek Ryan told Thoroughbred Daily News .
The New Jersey-bred gelding was scratched from the Grade 1 Forego at Saratoga on Aug. 29 after getting cast in his stall the night before the Forego. He was scratched by a regulatory vet on the morning of the race as "unsound," according to the Equibase chart. That designation means Book'em Danno is placed on the HISA vet's list for 14 days, after which he is eligible for a supervised workout for removal.

Ryan told TDN he is concerned that Book'em Danno might not have enough time to prepare for the G3 Vosburgh at Belmont Park on Sept. 26 or the G2 Phoenix Stakes at Keeneland on Oct. 3.
"If he doesn't get a run before the Breeders' Cup, we are not going to run," Ryan told TDN . "Englishman, to me, is the best 3-year-old in the country. He is a serious, serious horse. I don't want to take that sucker on if we're not 110 percent because he is a beast."
Book'em Danno bypassed the 2025 Breeders' Cup Sprint after he captured the G2 True North, G2 Alfred G. Vanderbilt, and G1 Forego at Saratoga last summer.
He's had three races in 2026, beginning with a runner-up effort in the G2 Carter Stakes at Aqueduct in April, then he successfully defended his title in the G2 True North. Most recently on July 17, he won the black-type Mr. Prospector Stakes at Monmouth Park, which had its purse boosted to $200,000 as part of a day celebrating the New Jersey-bred.

Book'em Danno was bred by Gregory J. Kilka & Bright View Farm. He is campaigned by Atlantic Six Racing.
