Report: Chelsea considering shock move for Manchester City star
Chelsea Transfer Interest in Abdukodir Khusanov Grows Ahead of January Window
Chelsea are understood to be tracking Abdukodir Khusanov as the club assesses defensive options ahead of January, with Caught Offside reporting that the Manchester City centre-back is firmly on the radar.

The 22-year-old is described as a player of potential and one whose situation bears watching over the coming months. As reported, Chelsea are "keeping a close eye on Manchester City defender Abdukodir Khusanov ahead of January" amid concerns over depth and reliability at the back.
There is a clear logic to that interest. Chelsea have looked vulnerable defensively in the opening weeks of the Premier League season, and the numbers alone explain why recruitment staff would be active in this area. The report notes the Blues are "in need of defensive reinforcements in January after conceding a staggering 12 goals in their first five Premier League games of the season." For a club with top-four ambitions, that record naturally sharpens the focus on centre-back targets.
Khusanov Transfer Situation Taking Shape
Khusanov has "shown some promise during his time at Man City", though there is still uncertainty over the role he will hold across the campaign. That appears central to Chelsea's thinking. If regular starts are not guaranteed at City, the possibility of movement could develop quickly once the winter market approaches.

The report adds that "it remains to be seen if he will continue to be an automatic starter on a regular basis", a line that will encourage interested clubs to keep monitoring closely. Chelsea are not alone either, with "three other Premier League clubs are also understood to be options for Khusanov." That suggests any move would require both conviction and speed if his availability becomes more concrete.
Chelsea Defence Under Pressure
From Chelsea's perspective, this is a situation to watch rather than one at an advanced stage. Yet the profile makes sense, a young defender, already exposed to elite standards, who may be open to a clearer pathway to minutes. With January still some distance away, much will depend on his standing at Manchester City and whether Chelsea decide he is the right fit for Xabi Alonso's squad.
Our View
As a Chelsea supporter, this feels like the sort of link that makes a lot of sense. We have all seen the defensive instability early in the season, and conceding 12 goals in five league matches is nowhere near good enough for where Chelsea want to be. If the club is serious about improving quickly, a centre-back has to be part of the conversation.

Khusanov is an intriguing name because he sounds like a player with upside, not just a short-term fix. If he has already "shown some promise during his time at Man City", then Chelsea should absolutely be asking the question. City do not hand opportunities to players unless they see genuine quality, so there is an obvious appeal there.
The key issue is whether he would come in and genuinely strengthen the starting picture. Chelsea need defenders who can cope physically, defend transitions and bring calm in difficult moments. If Khusanov can offer that, then this is worth pursuing. If the opportunity is there because "it remains to be seen if he will continue to be an automatic starter on a regular basis", Chelsea should be ready to act.
Supporters will want proven improvement, not just another body in the squad. Still, this report points towards smart market awareness. A young Premier League-tested defender with room to grow could be exactly the type of January move that helps stabilise the season.
