The San Francisco Giants are licking their wounds after taking a beating on Tuesday, losing 7-0 to the Philadelphia Phillies . The Giants received a poor starting pitching performance from right-hander Tyler Mahle , who allowed five earned runs and walked three in five innings.
The bullpen did okay in relief of Mahle, with left-hander Matt Gage throwing an inning with no runs and right-hander Blade Tidwell throwing two innings and allowing two earned runs. Since Tidwell threw a couple of innings on Tuesday, he'll be unavailable for Wednesday's game, which prompted the Giants to bring up reinforcements.
The San Francisco Giants are expected to recall right-hander Gregory Santos from Triple-A
According to Baseball/Sports reporter and BBWAA member Francys Romero, the Giants are calling up right-hander Gregory Santos from Triple-A Sacramento to add another arm to their bullpen. Santos, 26, had been pitching well in Triple-A, having a 2.45 ERA, three saves (three opportunities) and six strikeouts in 11.0 innings.
Santos is a familiar face to the Giants organization, as he made his major league debut with the Giants in 2021 after getting traded from the Boston Red Sox in 2017. Santos spent two seasons with the Giants (2021 and 2022) and went 0-2 with an 11.12 ERA in five games.
