Liverpool are among the clubs tracking Marcos Llorente as uncertainty lingers over his Atletico Madrid future, according to TeamTalk . The experienced Spaniard is approaching the final stretch of his current deal, and that has naturally alerted some of Europe's biggest sides.
The report states that Liverpool are "exploring" a move, while Chelsea and Manchester City are also firmly in the picture. From a recruitment perspective, it is easy to understand why. Llorente remains one of the most tactically useful players in European football, with his capacity to perform at right-back and in central midfield a major part of the appeal.
At 31, and with his 32nd birthday coming in January, he may not fit the classic age profile of a long-term rebuild. Yet TEAMtalk reports that "the fact Llorente is 31, and turns 32 in January, is not viewed as a significant issue by the clubs monitoring him". That line feels important. Liverpool, like several elite clubs, are increasingly open to adding proven experience when the role is clear and the value is right.
Llorente's standing at Atletico is well established. Since his £30 million move from Real Madrid in 2019, he has developed into one of the most dependable figures of the Diego Simeone era. The article notes he has become "one of LaLiga's most versatile and consistent performers" and "a genuine Atletico legend", with more than 300 appearances to his name.
That body of work matters. Liverpool are now under Andoni Iraola , and squad-building will be shaped by intensity, tactical adaptability and players who can execute multiple functions. Llorente's profile fits that thinking neatly. He can protect a flank, step into midfield, cover transitions and bring leadership in high-pressure environments.

TEAMtalk adds that "Liverpool and Chelsea are assessing their options at right-back and in midfield as they plan for 2027, making Llorente's profile particularly appealing to both clubs." That is the key line for Liverpool supporters. This is not simply about depth, it is about optionality across two positions that can quickly become priorities in modern squad construction.
Despite the growing noise, Atletico are not believed to be resigned to losing him. Quite the opposite. There is said to be "huge confidence within the Spanish club that an agreement will be reached", and that remains the central theme of the situation.
Llorente has "previously made clear his desire to finish his career with Atletico", which underlines why this is far from a straightforward market opportunity for Liverpool or anyone else. Atletico clearly want to keep him, and his emotional connection to the club is substantial.
Still, contract situations of this nature do tend to draw serious scrutiny. TEAMtalk says "his camp are fully aware of the growing interest from elsewhere and are being kept informed of the options emerging ahead of what could become a significant decision in his career." That usually means clubs are doing background work now, ready to move if conditions change.
For Liverpool, this feels like a sensible situation to monitor rather than an advanced pursuit at this stage. Manchester City are "also monitoring the situation", while Bayern Munich and Barcelona are mentioned as interested observers too. Such competition alone suggests Llorente's availability is being treated seriously across the market.
His blend of experience, versatility and immediate readiness would make him an attractive option if Atletico talks stall. The next move depends on whether the Spanish club can convert confidence into a signed agreement. Until then, Liverpool's interest in Marcos Llorente looks credible and worth following.
From a Liverpool perspective, this is one of those reports that immediately makes sense, even if it does not yet feel close. Marcos Llorente is the sort of player supporters can picture fitting into several different match scenarios. He is experienced, clever, hard-running and positionally flexible, and those qualities always carry value over a long season.
The obvious question is age. Some fans will see 31 and wonder whether this fits the club's long-term direction. That is fair, but context matters. If Liverpool are looking for someone who can contribute right away at right-back and in midfield, then this is not about resale, it is about reliability. Elite squads need a mix of youth and know-how, and Llorente would bring the latter in abundance.
There is also the practical point that top-level versatility saves money elsewhere in the squad. One signing who can genuinely cover two important roles is a major asset. If the deal were financially sensible, it would be easy to see the logic.
The main doubt is whether Atletico ever truly let this drift. He feels deeply tied to that club, and the report's line about his desire to finish there rings true. So this may end with a renewal in Madrid. But if there is any opening, Liverpool should absolutely be paying attention, because players with this level of tactical intelligence do not become available often.
