Report: Man United receive green light to move for €60m midfielder
Man Utd Monitoring Morten Hjulmand as Midfield Plans Accelerate
Manchester United appear to be positioning themselves for another pivotal summer rebuild, with Morten Hjulmand emerging as one of the midfield names under serious consideration.

According to Caught Offside , United are closely tracking the Sporting CP captain alongside Arsenal , who reportedly opened discussions during meetings between the clubs in the Champions League quarter-finals.
For United, this interest feels consistent with the wider direction of travel. Midfield remains an area requiring both balance and authority, particularly after another campaign where control in key moments has too often disappeared.
Sporting Ready to Open Negotiations
The most significant detail from the report concerns Sporting's apparent willingness to negotiate below Hjulmand's €80 million release clause.

"Arsenal were in touch recently, Man United are also asking to be kept informed."
"Sporting have given clubs the signal – he has a €80m release clause, but start negotiations at around €60m and there's a chance he can go."

That wording matters. Sporting have developed a reputation as disciplined negotiators, but they are also pragmatic sellers when the valuation aligns with their long established business model.
United's recruitment team will undoubtedly recognise the opportunity. At 26, Hjulmand sits within an ideal age bracket, experienced enough to contribute immediately while still possessing long term value.

Midfield Rebuild Remains Priority
Manchester United's need for midfield additions has become increasingly obvious over the past 12 months. Energy, defensive coverage and technical security have all been inconsistent, particularly against stronger opponents capable of exposing structural weaknesses.
Hjulmand would bring intensity and leadership alongside tactical discipline. His performances in Portugal have regularly demonstrated an ability to dictate tempo while protecting defensive spaces effectively.
Importantly, the Danish international also appears comfortable with the physical demands likely awaiting him in the Premier League. United have occasionally targeted technically gifted midfielders without fully considering whether they could adapt to the league's relentless transitions.

This profile feels different.
There is, however, no indication that Hjulmand currently stands at the very top of United's shortlist. The club continue to assess multiple options as part of a broader squad restructuring process.
Transfer Battle Could Intensify Quickly
The wider market dynamics may ultimately define this pursuit. Arsenal's long standing admiration remains active, while Manchester City could enter the conversation depending on developments surrounding Elliot Anderson .
The report also names Tottenham Hotspur , Atlético Madrid and Juventus F.C. as clubs likely to monitor the situation closely.

"What could be going on here is that Sporting hope to invite a bidding war for Hjulmand."
That possibility will concern United supporters. Recent transfer windows have repeatedly shown how quickly prices escalate once multiple elite clubs become involved.
Still, Hjulmand increasingly looks like the type of midfielder many at Old Trafford believe the squad has lacked for years, composed, aggressive and tactically intelligent.
Our View – EPL Index Analysis
Manchester United supporters have watched the midfield become too easy to play through far too often, particularly in high intensity matches where structure disappears under pressure.

Hjulmand looks capable of bringing order to that chaos. He plays with aggression but also positional discipline, qualities United have lacked consistently since the peak years of Casemiro . Fans would likely welcome a midfielder prepared to do the less glamorous work while still progressing possession intelligently.
There is also growing fatigue among supporters regarding short term transfer thinking. Hjulmand appears to fit a longer term football plan rather than another commercially driven move. At 26, he arrives with leadership experience and maturity, but without feeling like a declining player searching for one final contract.
The concern, naturally, revolves around competition. Arsenal can currently offer greater stability and clearer progression, while Manchester City entering the market would complicate matters significantly.
Even so, this is precisely the calibre of profile United should be targeting. The club do not simply need talent, they need midfielders capable of restoring authority and control to games that too frequently drift away from them.
