The Pittsburgh Steelers could soon part ways with backup quarterback Mason Rudolph .
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Penn State quarterback Drew Allar with their first third-round pick (No. 76 overall) in the 2026 NFL Draft, potentially making backup quarterback Mason Rudolph expendable.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport then added to that speculation when he revealed the Steelers are, in fact, open to dealing Rudolph following the selection of Allar, and now, there seems to be at least one team interested in Rudolph.
According to Andrew Fillipponi of Pittsburgh's 93.7 The Fan , the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are interested in trading for Rudolph in exchange for a sixth- or seventh-round pick.
Rudolph, 30, has proven to be a valuable asset to a team throughout his NFL career. Last season, he filled in for quarterback Aaron Rodgers while he was sidelined with an injury. He threw for just 310 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in relief of Rodgers.
That wasn't the first time Rudolph stepped in, either. He also did in 2019, when Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2.

However, the Steelers will have to decide whether a sixth- or seventh-round pick is worth potentially having to rely on a former sixth-round pick in Will Howard or a rookie in Allar.
Of course, this scenario will only play out if Rodgers returns next season and that is far from a done deal at this point. But the Steelers have been operating like he will be their starting quarterback all offseason.
A third-round pick by the Steelers in the 2018 NFL Draft, Rudolph has thrown for 4,925 yards, 30 touchdowns and 22 interceptions in his professional career.
