It may be one Swede coming to the Detroit Red Wings . It's a certainty that one Swede is leaving the organization.
ESPN's Emily Kaplan is reporting that the Red Wings are talking with veteran UFA forward Viktor Arvidsson about a two-year deal. Arvidsson would fit the mold of someone who is hard to play against, a factor the Wings are looking to upgrade.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman says the two sides are nearing agreement on a two-year deal with an AAV of $5 million.
Left-winger Arvidsson, 33, is a tenacious forechecker who plays a north-south game and comes at opponents with speed. He's also equipped with a quick release.
Last season, Arvidsson put up 25-29-54 totals with the Boston Bruins . It was the third time in five seasons that he's gone over the 20-goal plateau. He's twice topped 30 goals in his NHL career, among his six seasons with at least 20 goals.
He's played in two Stanley Cup final series, with Edmonton in 2025 and Nashville in 2017.
Red Wings Defenseman Heading to Kings
While the Wings seek to add one veteran Swede, another has bid adieu to the organization. Defenseman Erik Gustafsson has signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Kings.
Gustafsson, 34, saw action in just two games with Detroit last season. He spent the majority of the season with the AHL Grand Rapids Griffins, earning rave reviews for both his play and his work mentoring the defensive prospects in the Red Wings system.
