Report: Sovereignty’s Jockey Club Gold Cup Status In Doubt
Sovereignty's status for the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup is up in the air, the Daily Racing Form reports.
Trainer Bill Mott told David Grening that the reigning Horse of the Year has developed an abscess in a hind foot, which will cause him to miss a work this weekend and an unknown number of training days.

The Jockey Club Gold Cup will be run in two weeks on opening day at Belmont Park.
"If I'm able to get a decent work in him, we could still be on," Mott told DRF .
Sovereignty has worked twice since his victory in the G1 Whitney on Aug. 8. He clocked four furlongs over the Saratoga Oklahoma training track in :49.85 on Aug. 21, and went the same distance in :48.80 on Aug. 28.
A homebred for Godolphin, he also finished third in this year's G1 Stephen Foster and second in the G2 Oaklawn Handicap.
