Report: Tottenham Hotspur interested in move for Serie A defender
Giorgio Scalvini transfer latest as Tottenham continue to track Atalanta defender
Giorgio Scalvini has committed his future to Atalanta on paper, yet the wider expectation in recruitment circles is that this story is far from over. According to Caught Offside , the Italy international has agreed a new long-term deal, but Premier League interest remains active, with Tottenham Hotspur among the clubs to have followed his situation closely.

That balance is important. Contract renewals can secure a club's position and strengthen leverage, though they do not automatically remove a player from the market. In Scalvini's case, there is a feeling he will continue to be watched closely because of his profile, age and upside. He "remains on Premier League radars", and that point will certainly be noted by Spurs supporters looking ahead to future windows.
Scalvini contract keeps Atalanta in control
The key development is that Scalvini "has now reached an agreement on fresh terms with Atalanta", with the deal set to run until 2031. That is a significant show of faith from the Serie A side. It also means any club hoping to test Atalanta's resolve would likely need to make a major offer, and that naturally complicates matters for Tottenham, Chelsea and Newcastle United .

Scalvini's rise has not been entirely smooth. The defender suffered an ACL injury in 2024 and later needed shoulder surgery, yet he recovered to make around 30 appearances last season. Those setbacks have not damaged his reputation. If anything, the fact he returned to "regular action" and retained admirers underlines the regard in which he is held.
Tottenham monitoring defensive market
For Tottenham, the mention is notable. The report states Spurs "have previously checked on his availability", while Newcastle are described as "particularly persistent in their pursuit of the Italian". Chelsea, too, "have also made enquiries about the centre-back". Manchester City and Manchester United are also said to have tracked him for years.
In practical terms, Tottenham's interest makes sense. Scalvini offers size, composure and versatility, and at 22 he fits the age bracket many elite clubs prioritise. A new contract may delay movement, but it does not end "transfer speculation".

Our View
From a Tottenham perspective, this is one of those links that feels credible because the profile lines up so well with what the club should be targeting. Scalvini is young, highly rated, already tested at a strong level, and still has room to develop. Those are exactly the sort of deals Spurs need to stay aggressive on, even if they are difficult to complete.
The obvious issue is the timing. Once a player signs until 2031, the selling club holds all the power. That probably means any move now would be expensive, and Tottenham have to be smart about where they commit major money. If Newcastle are "particularly persistent" and Chelsea are still watching, then competition alone could push the price beyond comfort.
Still, there is enough here to keep supporters intrigued. The injuries are worth noting, but the fact he came back and made around 30 appearances is encouraging. It suggests resilience as well as quality. Spurs need defenders who can cope physically and tactically, and Scalvini looks like someone who could grow into a leading Premier League centre-back.

Even if nothing happens immediately, this feels like a name to keep on the list. Tottenham "have previously checked on his availability", and that should remain the case. Sometimes the right move is not the next move, but the one you are prepared for when conditions change.
