Former Patriots tackle discusses his bond beyond football
Former New England Patriots tackle Matt Light considered retiring after the 2010 season but returned for another year to play alongside rookie tight end Rob Gronkowski. In a recent interview, Gronkowski pointed to Drake Maye's lost confidence as a factor in the Patriots' offensive struggles. The Patriots currently holds a 4–3 record.

"After my 10th season, you know, and feeling very fortunate to spend my entire career in New England, and I was thinking about hanging it up, but that was my first year with Gronk, and I thought, you know what, man, I gotta have at least one more with this cat," Light said .

Gronkowski joined the Patriots in 2010 as a second-round draft pick. The veteran helped the rookie adjust to the NFL. Light worked with Gronkowski on blocking techniques and aspects of the running game. Gronkowski later credited the veteran for helping him during his first season.
Away from football, the two hunted together and developed a close friendship.
In 2011, Gronkowski recorded 1,327 yards and 17 touchdowns, setting a single-season NFL record for a tight end. The Patriots also reached Super Bowl XLVI but lost 21–17 to the New York Giants on February 5, 2012. It was Light's final NFL season.
Light spent his entire 11-year career with New England from 2001 through 2011. He won three Super Bowl championships, earned three Pro Bowl selections and received First-Team All-Pro honors in 2007. He officially announced his retirement in May 2012.

Light later cited football's physical toll and a desire to spend more time with his family as reasons for retiring. In 2018, the Patriots inducted him into their Hall of Fame.
Both organizations support youth through community programs. Their latest joint effort coincides with Gronkowski's Patriots Hall of Fame recognition.
Gronkowski played nine seasons with the Patriots, winning three Super Bowl championships. He finished his New England career with 521 receptions, 7,861 receiving yards and 79 receiving touchdowns. He also recorded 80 total touchdowns with the franchise.
To mark the induction, Light and Gronkowski launched the Ultimate Gronk Weekend Sweepstakes. One winner and a guest will receive premium tickets to the November 7 ceremony and a chance to meet Gronkowski.

The package also includes two luxury suite tickets to the Patriots' November 8 game against the Green Bay Packers, where the winners will watch alongside Light. Other prizes include dinner for two at Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse, a two-night stay at MainStay Suites in Foxboro/Mansfield, a $1,500 travel allowance for out-of-region winners, two Gronkowski-signed jerseys and additional gifts.
Proceeds from the campaign will be divided between the Light Foundation and Gronk Nation Youth Foundation to support their charitable programs.
The campaign brings together two former Patriots whose connection began during Gronkowski's rookie season and later extended into community initiatives.
