The Chicago Bears organization has been seeking a new stadium since 2021. While it's been a slow, dramatic process, it appears the club has narrowed the location down to two sites. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell finally shared his two cents on the situation, and it sounds like he's on board with the franchise moving out of Chicago.
With the Bears considering either Hammond, Indiana, or Arlington Heights, Illinois, as the two possible new stadium locations, Goodell seemingly backed the organization and said that either would suffice, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.
"They'll have two viable sites that the Bears can make their decision from," said Goodell.
The Bears' stadium has been located near downtown Chicago for over 100 years. Once the franchise officially moves, the team will no longer be in Chicago. However, Arlington Heights is a suburban area northwest of Chicago. But at least the team would remain in Illinois.
As for Hammond, Indiana, the Bear' franchise would be moving to an entirely different state . But it is noteworthy that the city is right on the Illinois-Indiana border and is essentially mixed in with Chicago's city limits. Wherever ownership decides to go, the franchise will still be very close to downtown Chicago.
It will likely be similar to the San Francisco 49ers stadium situation. While the club represents the city of San Francisco, the stadium is actually located in Santa Clara, California. While technically, it is a different city, Santa Clara is not too far away from San Francisco and is sort of mixed in with the city limits.
The Bears' ownership is expected to announce the official stadium location soon. It could happen between now, but they may wait until the middle of the summer.
