Royals OF Dairon Blanco claimed by Texas Rangers after Starling Marte deal

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Royals veteran outfielder Dairon Blanco was claimed by the Texas Rangers on Sunday after he was designated for assignment (DFA) earlier this month.

Blanco, 32, spent seven years with the Royals. He was DFA’d by the club following the signing of outfielder Starling Marte on March 2.

In those seven seasons, Blanco recorded a .325 average with four home runs and seven stolen bases. He was used mostly as a bench bat, utility outfielder and pinch runner.

A moment Blanco will be remembered for in Kansas City came on August 15, 2023, when Blanco bunted in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning, saving a stellar outing from Brady Singer .

With Blanco’s departure for Texas, the Royals will turn to OF Tyler Tolbert if they’d like to include a pinch-running specialist on their roster. However, utility bat Josh Rojas , acquired during the latest offseason, has been playing incredibly well in Spring Training , so the Royals certainly have options.
