Rudy Gay makes bold assessment about Warriors' wins without Steph Curry originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
The month of February was not kind to the Warriors by any means, as it was their first full month without Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler .
They posted just a 4-6 record and came into March riding a two-game losing streak. In a game where many expected them to lose, Golden State knocked off the Houston Rockets 115-113 in overtime on Thursday.
It was a much-needed victory for the Warriors, who are currently holding onto the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. While the roster still has some talented young players without the likes of Curry, former 17-year NBA forward Rudy Gay joked on Prime's "NBA Nightcap" that every win without the sharpshooter should count as two due to how difficult it is to operate without him.
"Every win they get without Steph Curry should count for two," Gay said. "It honestly should. Man, look, people have good games. D'Anthony Melton had a great game today, Podz ( Brandin Podziemski ) had a good game. Al Horford , the old man, played well today, too. But they still need their guy. They need their guy to consistently be seen as one of those top teams and continue to get up in the standings. We getting into the thick of the season, they need him back."
Melton and Podziemski combined for 49 points on 20-of-40 shooting, while also totaling 15 rebounds between the two of them. Aside from Curry being out, the Warriors were also without Kristaps Porziņģis (illness), Gary Payton II (ankle) and Moses Moody (wrist).
With Curry's status for the season as mysterious as ever, there seemingly have been more discussions about when the Warriors should decide to throw in the towel as opposed to making a playoff surge. However, if the Warriors do think they have any chance at making somewhat of a run, it certainly will not happen without Curry.
The 37-year-old Curry was averaging 27.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists this season before going down with an injury.
