The Minnesota Timberwolves ’ reward for beating the Denver Nuggets in impressive fashion is a Western Conference Semifinals matchup with the San Antonio Spurs . Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert is familiar with Spurs star Victor Wembanyama , a fellow Frenchman, and heading into the upcoming round of the NBA playoffs, he spoke about the mentality that Wembanyama has that separates him from other young players, as per Wolves reporter Dane Moore.
“I’ve watched him a lot, I’ve watched him evolve, I’ve watched the way he works, the way he takes care of himself,” Gobert said. “A few weeks ago he asked me what kind of filter I had in my house for water. It just tells you how his mind is. I try to talk to the young guys here about the food they eat and stuff like that. But I don’t get those type of questions.”
Aside from Victor Wembanyama ’s off the court regimen, Rudy Gobert is going to have replicate his defensive performance from the opening round for the Timberwolves’ playoff series against the Spurs. Gobert’s defense against Nuggets star Nikola Jokic was a big reason why the Wolves won that series.
Gobert had a strong opening round of the postseason , averaging 7.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.2 blocked shots while shooting 52.8 percent from the field in a little over 34 minutes per game.
On the other hand, Wembanyama is coming off a strong playoff debut against the Portland Trail Blazers . In the opening round, he averaged 21.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 4.0 blocked shots with splits of 58.3 percent shooting from the field, 53.8 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 91.3 percent shooting from the free-throw line.
