Ryan Clark has been let go by ESPN as they adjust their NFL coverage team, but his departure has a lot to do with his previous comments.
Clark joined ESPN in 2015, becoming a pivotal member of their NFL coverage team across their morning and afternoon sports shows.
However, Clark's dismissal isn't entirely motivated by the company's cost-cutting measures, as an incident in September on Get Up played a part in his dismissal.

According to Andrew Marchand of The Athletic , Ryan Clark was informed by ESPN officials that he was going to be let go as he was taking part in their NFL Live broadcast.
Clark had appeared earlier on the show, discussing the expectations surrounding the New York Giants heading into the season.
After the show returned from commercial break, Clark was notably absent on the panel. The reporting suggests that ESPN officials informed him of the decision during the commercial break.
However, further investigation into the incident has revealed that Clark's dismissal came down to an awkward exchange between him and an ESPN analyst during Get Up in September.
According to reporting from The Athletic , a previous interaction between Ryan Clark and Peter Schrager played a part in the former NFL star's firing.
During the September 5th, 2025 edition of ESPN's Get Up, the panel were discussing the Dallas Cowboys ' Week 1 upset win over then-reigning champions Philadelphia Eagles .
As the debate got heated, Ryan Clark dismissed Peter Schrager's comments about CeeDee Lamb by suggesting that he didn't have actual playing experience in the NFL.
Ryan Clark:"The thing is this. We shouldn't do this on TV. So, I apologize if people think this is rude. That's the non-player in you."
Peter Schrager:"I'm not the fantasy football guy. Don't belittle me like that, I can come and say as three ex-players are saying one thing, and give an alternative perspective."
Clark:"Peter, what I need for you to do is not get mad and let me finish."
Clark issued an apology hours later on X , which read as follows:
"Today, I had an interaction with my colleague (Peter Schrager), both on and off the air, that I regret. I have apologized to Peter and taken accountability with ESPN leadership.
"I value working with Peter and look forward to this season. My focus will remain on professionalism, teamwork, and being a better teammate moving forward."
It appears the apology did little to convince higher-ups within ESPN that Clark should be kept on as part of their team.
