Ryan Garcia last fought in February, securing a unanimous decision win over Mario Barros to claim the WBC welterweight title. The victory re-established his position in the boxing world.
Since then, Garcia has actively searched for his next opponent, repeatedly calling out leading names. He notably targeted Shakur Stevenson, dismissing him and questioning his standing among elite fighters.

That period of uncertainty ended last Wednesday, when 'King Ryan' used a livestream to clarify his immediate future. The announcement provided long-awaited details after months of speculation around his next move.

Garcia revealed during a Kick stream that he will face Conor Benn in August, with Las Vegas set to host the bout.
The matchup gained traction after Benn called him out following his recent victory over Regis Prograis.
At last Saturday's event, Benn fought 3lbs over the welterweight limit, so he will have to plan a different preparation to face 'King Ryan' for the WBC belt.
Garcia made his stance clear during the stream, saying: "Conor is about to get blasted, guys."

Recent doping cases add context to bout
Both fighters have faced scrutiny after failed drug tests in recent years.
Conor Benn's suspension was lifted by U.K. National Anti-Doping Panel (NAPD) in November 2024, allowing him to resume his career.
Ryan Garcia, however, received a one-year suspension following a positive PED test.
The differing outcomes add another layer of attention to an already high-profile fight.
