The New Orleans Saints made a big splash this offseason by signing former Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. One of the most productive running backs in the NFL over the last few years, Etienne will be a big boost to the ailing New Orleans offense. However, there’s one question that still needs to be answered: how does Alvin Kamara factor into their plans now that Etienne is on board?
A veteran who’s spent his entire career in New Orleans, many have speculated about Kamara’s fate after the Etienne signing. Many already took Kamara’s latest social media activity as a sign that he’s leaving the Saints. The running back recently addressed the rumors , saying that he’s excited to work with Etienne and that there’s no beef between him and the newcomer. Kamara hopes that he and Etienne can recreate what the former and Mark Ingram once did for New Orleans.
“A lot of people be thinking there’s beef or something when moves like this happen,” Kamara said, per Ari Meirov. “I couldn’t be happier. He got paid and we got help in the backfield. I’m cool with it.”
Kamara’s 2025 season was one to forget for the Saints running back. He played in just 11 games due to injury, and was largely ineffective when he was on the field. He finished with just 675 total scrimmage yards (471 on the ground) and one touchdown, his worst production so far. Prior to last season, Kamara consistently finished with well over 1,000 scrimmage yards, his talent as one of the premier pass-catching backs in the league showing up.
Saints fans are hoping that the arrival of Etienne gives Kamara another boost late into his career. Etienne is more of a traditional running back that Kamara, coming off a season where he gained 1,107 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. New Orleans is looking to improve after finishing the 2025 season with a 6-11 record.
