Saints among many teams in on Ohio State kicker Jayden Fielding

One of the most notable changes to any unit this offseason by the New Orleans Saints has been their special teams, bringing in a new punter and returner in the first few weeks. Now, it is clear they are also considering bringing in competition for the kicker spot, as they have looked into two different draft prospects at the position so far, both of whom are considered to be consistent options and likely starters in the NFL eventually.

The most recent report of the bunch was Ohio State kicker Jayden Fielding, who has had reported interest from various NFL teams. Fielding is a very intriguing option at kicker, as he has a few glaring holes in his game, but he has improved over time as well and is showing promise. In three seasons of playing time, Fielding went 45 for 57 on field goals (78.9%) and 178 for 179 on extra point attempts, accruing 313 points in his career. In Ohio State history, he ranks No. 4 in made field goals and No. 5 in field goal percentage, despite only starting three seasons.

The biggest gap in his game is the long ball, as he missed each of his three attempts from 50-plus yards, but his consistency at every other range is strong. He went 13 of 14 from 20 to 29 yards, 17 of 20 from 30 to 39 yards, and 15 of 20 from 40 to 49 yards. Working on extending his range will be critical for an NFL jump, but he could be an intriguing developmental option, especially factoring in his kickoff success.
