Sal Stewart ranks second among National League rookies | MLB.com poll
A National League Rookie of the Year poll chosen by a panel of MLB.com experts ranks Cincinnati Reds infielder Sal Stewart second behind New York Mets pitcher Nolan McLean among frontrunners for the award.
The St. Louis Cardinals ' JJ Wetherholt, the Pittsburgh Pirates ' Konnor Griffin and the Chicago Cubs ' Moisés Ballesteros round out the top five.
Stewart entered the Reds' series opener May 12 against the Washington Nationals with a .245 batting average, 10 home runs, 30 RBIs and eight stolen bases. He's on pace for 39 homers and 31 SBs.
McLean is 1-2 with a 2.78 ERA and 0.904 WHIP in eight starts this season. He has struck out 57, walked 12 and allowed just three home runs in 45 ⅓ innings.
McLean has made 16 career MLB starts but none against the Reds. Cincinnati is scheduled to visit the Mets in New York May 25-27.
