Sam Houston is having a tough 2026. It was a full rebuild under head coach Phil Longo, and the team has yet to beat an FBS program. On a four-game losing streak and 0-3 in Conference USA play, it'll lock in a losing season with another loss.
Missouri State had a little fun with a 24-21 win over Kennesaw State a few weeks ago, and then it all ended with a thud in a 61-38 loss at Delaware. The hard part of the CUSA schedule comes up next, so no, it can't lose at home.

Why Sam Houston Will Win
So what's going right with the Bearkats? The offense is supposed to be the star under Longo, but it's the defense that's holding up despite all of the other issues. It's third in the nation in pass defense, great on third downs, and now it gets a Bear team that's struggling to move the chains.
Why Missouri State Will Win
Yeah, the Sam Houston pass defense is good, but that's partly because the run defense gets destroyed for over 200 yards per game and five yards per carry.
Missouri State has a decent passing game, but it has to hand the ball off, and then do it again and again until the dam starts to break. Sam Houston doesn't do anything on the defensive front to generate negative plays, and it'll have problems late if Missouri State can run the ball over 30 times.
Sam Houston vs Missouri State Prediction, Betting Lines
Sam Houston has been close in a brutally frustrating season. Three of the losses came by six points or fewer, and it'll keep this one close, too. Missouri State is 0-5 when giving up 30 points or more, and Sam Houston hasn't scored more than 24 against an FBS team.
