On Saturday, the New York Yankees ’ game against the Tampa Bay Rays was rained out due to bad weather in the New York City area. The Rays had won Game 1 of the series on Friday evening in the Bronx, giving the Yankees their third straight loss in the process.
Now, more information is coming to light on how the Yankees’ lineup plans might change in the wake of Saturday’s rainout.
“ Aaron Boone previously said he was thinking of getting Aaron Judge an off day against the #Royals. However, Boone said this morning that yesterday’s rainout may change that,” reported Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News on X, formerly Twitter.
Perhaps Boone is simply viewing Saturday’s unexpected off day as Judge’s planned day off, which would certainly be good news for the Yankees, if it means having their best player on the field more often than expected.
Judge has been enjoying another strong statistical season for the Yankees, and although the team still has a solid record of 30-22, they currently sit in second place in the AL East, 5.5 games behind the Rays for first.
This weekend’s series against Tampa Bay theoretically would have provided New York with a good chance of making up some ground in the race, but Friday’s loss, combined with Saturday’s rainout, will limit how much damage they can do in that department.
The Yankees will be back on the diamond on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 pm ET to wrap up what turned out to be a two-game set against the Rays, before hitting the road for a series against the Royals beginning on Monday afternoon in Kansas City .
