Initial reactions and Observations
-
Bayern were lucky enough to escape with the win after that closing stage. Inviting pressure is never a good idea, but they did enough to win the match.
-
Parking the bus is still a relatively alien concept to Bayern. They clearly want to perfect it, but they're still a long way from mastering it.
-
Urbig made several big saves to deny Freiburg an equalizer, and maybe a winning goal
That's all, everyone. Huge thanks for sticking around with us. Bayern plays Magdeburg in the DFB-Pokal in midweek and then Der Klassiker at the weekend. Speak to you all in a bit.
90+7' — Full time!
90+5' — TOR!Olise pounces on Backhaus's hesitation and puts the ball in the empty net. Bayern is now 3-1 up, and surely good for the win!

85' — Bayern keep Freiburg out after a dangerous attack.
83' — Vincenzo Grifo hits the wall on his freekick.
82' — Goal.Freiburg score a lucky goal to bring the game to one goal. Bayern still 2-1 up. The goal is credited as a Tom Bischof own goal.
81' — Saibari and Kane shoot bullets at the Freiburg goal, but Backhaus somehow keeps both of them out.
76' — Upamecano heads the ball just over from a corner kick by Olise.
75' — Saibari is forced into a tight angle, his shot is therefore a tame one.
73' — Alphonso Davies replaces Nathaniel Brown.
69' — Brown shoots weakly at Backhaus.
62' — Saibari's first shot in the game is saved by Backhaus.
61' — Ismael Saibari and Sacha Boey come on for Serge Gnabry and Josip Stanisic.
59' — Urbig collects Igor Matanović's shot.
57' — Harry Kane heads the ball over from an Olise freekick.
55' — Jan-Niklas Beste gets booked for a sliding challenge on Brown.
52' — Upamecano nearly pokes the ball home from a corner kick.
47' — Derry Scherhant shoots the freekick straight at Jonas Urbig, who collects the ball.
46' — Welcome back! The second half has begun.
Halftime Observations
-
Solid game from Bayern so far. The counterattacking scheme has somewhat worked, presumably another system the team is trying out for future use.
-
That was an incredible goal by Dayot Upamecano. Won the ball outside his box, ran up and latched onto Michael Olise's pass and finished a 1v1. Harry Kane probably taught him a thing or two.
-
Lennart Karl is frustrating to watch at times, and today is one of those times.
-
Konrad Laimer is obviously trying to get used to playing in midfield again after an extended period of playing as a right-back.
45+5' — Half time!
45+3' — Höler sees Jonas Urbig off his line and tries to shoot from his own half. The ball goes out.
45' — Four minutes of stoppage time added on.
43' — TOR!Serge Gnabry shoots from an impossible angle to put Bayern 2-0 up just before the break.
42' — Gnabry fires WAY over the goal.
34' — Nathaniel Brown's shot gets saved by Backhaus.
29' — Yuito Suzuki tries his luck from distance, but it goes over.
27' — Serge Gnabry fires wide of the target.
25' — Lucas Höler gets a yellow card.
24' — Michael Olise dribbles inside but hits his shot weakly at Backhaus.
22' — Freiburg could not poke the ball home after a scramble inside Bayern's box.
16' — TOR!After a quick exchange of attacks, Bayern go on the counterattack and Dayot Upamecano of all people finishes 1v1 against Mio Backhaus. Bayern go 1-0 up!
14' — Bayern under pressure from the home side.
4' — The game has resumed.
1' — Not even a minute in, and the game is temporarily suspended because of pyro smoke.
Kickoff— LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Lineups are out!Tom Bischof and Konrad Laimer start in midfield, with Nathaniel Brown, Lennart Karl and Jonas Urbig joining the starting XI. Alphonso Davies, Ismael Saibari, and Tim Binder start on the bench.
Bayern Munich played out a 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Champions League, an impressive result when you find out that the Bavarians were missing several key players. With their next Champions League match a must-win (and by extension the rest of the group phase games), the Bavarians visit SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga.

The team from the Black Forest were off to an impressive start to the season, only halted by a 2-1 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen last week. For them, this is the chance to climb higher in the table. For Bayern, this is a chance to stamp their authority on the rest of the league.

Prediction
Bayern wins 2-1. Both teams will play high-intensity football, but Bayern will get the edge with goals from Kane and Olise. Another sloppy mistake will allow Freiburg to score a goal, but that's all they will get.
