The Texas Rangers will look to reshape their roster after missing the postseason for the third consecutive year, although the extent of their expected changes remains uncertain.
Texas will likely operate under the same financial restrictions it faced last offseason, when president of baseball operations Chris Young needed to reduce payroll.

Those limitations could lead Young to trade expensive players or release arbitration-eligible players who no longer fit the roster the Rangers are attempting to construct.
Several factors will determine which players return in 2027. Financial commitments will matter, but individual performance will also influence every decision.
Texas wants to create a more versatile lineup, increasing the value of players capable of handling multiple positions or contributing in different situations.
The Rangers must also evaluate whether they have MLB-ready players in the minor leagues who can replace more expensive veterans.

Corey Seager is one player whose future with Texas could become uncertain.
Why Rangers could trade Seager
Seager's contract makes trading him extremely difficult. He has five seasons remaining on the 10-year, $325 million agreement he signed with the Rangers before the 2022 season.
The Boston Red Sox were reportedly interested in Seager last offseason, but Texas refused to move him.
His trade value is not where the Rangers would want it to be following a disappointing season . However, big-market teams could still pursue a quality left-handed hitter who can produce 30 home runs and 100 RBIs when healthy.

Seager finished with a .227/.312/.424 slash line, 20 home runs, 51 RBIs and a .736 OPS in 102 games.
Availability remains another concern. Seager has not appeared in more than 123 games during any of his last four seasons.
His 10-and-5 rights further complicate any potential transaction because they allow him to veto every proposed trade.
Seager's upside
Despite those obstacles, Seager can still attract interested teams. His left-handed power can change the shape of a lineup and force opposing pitchers to approach the hitters around him differently.
He also brings considerable experience in important games and understands the preparation required to handle significant expectations.

When healthy, Seager offers a disciplined approach and the ability to produce against high-quality pitching. He does not need to become overly aggressive to generate power because his swing allows him to drive mistakes without abandoning control.
His calm demeanor also provides stability during difficult stretches. Seager rarely allows visible frustration to dictate his next plate appearance, a quality that can benefit younger teammates.
The Rangers must determine whether those strengths still justify the remaining financial commitment and repeated concerns about his availability.
A trade would require Seager's approval, a willing big-market team and a return acceptable to Texas. Keeping him would mean trusting that improved health can restore the production expected from the centerpiece of the Rangers' lineup.
