The Seattle Seahawks have not been as dominant a squad this year, which is surprising considering they are the reigning Super Bowl champions. Part of the reason why has been the inconsistent play of their quarterback Sam Darnold.
The 29-year-old veteran has thrown nearly the same amount of interceptions (9) as touchdowns (10) this year in the seven games he has played. He has relied heavily on his defense to keep them in games, and the offensive unit as a whole has looked drastically different with Brian Fleury as offensive coordinator.
During Seattle's loss on Sunday Night Football against the Bears, he completed just 17 of his 34 attempts for 188 yards. He did throw two touchdowns but also threw an interception, extending his streak of consecutive games with a turnover to six.

Darnold has battled multiple injury setbacks this year, which could be why he has looked flustered out there, and unfortunately the one he suffered last Sunday against the Bears is going to cause him to miss some time.
Darnold will not play this week against the Arizona Cardinals as he is dealing with both a cracked rib and a quad injury. He will not be placed on injured reserve, leaving the door open for him to potentially return in Week 10.
Drew Lock will take over, but now Seattle's quarterback depth is going to be tested. Jalen Milroe steps up to back up Lock, but now they need another third stringer. So, Seattle decided to sign Adrian Martinez to the practice squad as added depth.
Martinez should provide some emergency depth and he has spent plenty of time in the NFL as part of different organizations since 2023.
He even appeared in a game for the San Francisco 49ers in 2025. The hope is that his experience is not needed though, and that Darnold is back under center sooner rather than later.
