- Seahawks Land Versatile Playmaker Amid Roster Moves Before Cowboys Game
The Seattle Seahawks are fast approaching the team's first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday, August 15, and the team has orchestrated a bevy of roster moves in recent days. Seattle's roster shuffle continues as the team announced two additional moves on Saturday, August 8.
The Seahawks signed rookie running back Justin Jones to a new deal. Seattle cut ties with linebacker Power Echols to make room for Jones on the roster.
The news comes nearly 24 hours after the Seahawks initially signed Echols. Seattle previously signed Jones as an undrafted free agent earlier this offseason.
Jones' special teams versatility is a plus as the rookie attempts to make the Seahawks roster.
"Jones, who took part in Seattle's rookie minicamp in May as a tryout player, saw limited action at running back at Auburn, but was a special teams standout, recording a blocked punt and four special teams tackles last season," Seahawks.com's John Boyle wrote on August 8.
